Reading Programs

We will start guided reading with small leveled groups this week.  Our time will usually occur 9:35-10:05 Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fridays for 6 weeks.

(I look very different in this photo.  Maybe, it is just the longer hair.)

Home reading occurs every day (as long as Mr. Sullivan has his act together).  It should take 10-20 minutes where kids can read a simple book on their own, at their level.  You may wish to sit with your child and have them read to you.  This is an excellent opportunity for: vocabulary development, a bit of guidance and also to show your child how much you value reading.
For longer reads, such as novels, students will sign them out from the
library and do that on top of home reading.

Terry Fox Run

Our class did a great job on the Terry Fox Run.  Thanks to all the parents for helping us walk safely to Elphinstone.  On a special note this was Mr. Detwiller's last Terry Fox Run with a class at Gibsons.

Hello all my new parents and students!

I am just getting things up and running on my blog.  I will be replacing all my last year info. and pictures.  Feel free to check out how we used the blog last year to get a sense of how things will work this year.

• A schedule will come out soon and I will post it ASAP.  NB Schedule posted was for last year!
• You do NOT need to purchase a memory stick as the supply list said.  If you did we will use them over time and through the years.
• Planners are $5.00 and are coming home today.
• Home reading starts today!

I will try and keep you informed as things come out.  Feel free to stop by and say hi!  I look forward to meeting all of you.

Cheers,
Eric Sullivan
